Be Ready and Willing

There may be times in our lives when we wonder if God could ever use us.  Most think that if he is to use them it will have to be some grand but you never know it could be as simple as a  kind word or a hug.

This is what happened to a young woman who seemed to have it all together.  Her name is Tammy Trent, she had married the love of her life who she met while in a youth group.  She had a record deal and now she had been married 11 years and was wondering- God what is next, where are you taking me, what is in store.  With all the good that had been happening you would think that he would just continue to bless her, after all she seemed to have it all together.

While spending time at the Blue Lagoon in Jamaica her husband went for a free dive which means no tanks.  He had been very accomplished in this and could hold his breath for six or seven minutes.  Tammy watched as he went down and would come up for air then go down again but she got a little distracted watching other swimmers and then realized she hadn't seen him for awhile.  Looking in the area where he was, still nothing,  15 minutes, 30 minutes, then panic starts to set in, 60 minutes and still nothing.  Divers went out looking for him but didn't find him til the next day and unfortunately he was gone.  Tammy was devastated.  In Jamaica all alone with her grief.  Her parents desperately wanted to get to her but they couldn't.  You see, this happened on  September 11, 2001, the planes had just crashed into the twin towers and all flights to and from the USA were cancelled.  Now she really was alone.  As she lay in her room weeping and crying out to God.  Her prayer was the he would just send her one angel to help her and then she opened her eyes.  There stood a lady in a Hilton Hotel uniform - it was housekeeping.  Through her tears she asked the woman if she could just make her bed for her but she did so much more.  She told Tammy that had been trying to get to her because she could hear her crying and calling out to god. She asked Tammy if she could just give her a hug and that was just what Tammy had been asking for.  She held her, hugged her, and prayed with her.  She cleaned the room and sang songs to Jesus the entire time and before she left she gave her new friend a hug again.  Tammy was no longer feeling all alone in her pain.  Was the pain still there?  Absolutely, but God had sent her an angel.

Was that lady a big church pastor or scholar NO!  What she was though was in tune with the leadings from god who told her to get to this lady who is in deep pain.  She gave a hug, held her and prayed with her.  She was ready and willing to be used by God and used she was.  Tammy will never forget this woman who was there for her when no one else could be.

Revelation 3:8 in the message says “I see what you’ve done. Now see what I’ve done. I’ve opened a door before you that no one can slam shut. You don’t have much strength, I know that; you used what you had to keep my Word. You didn’t deny me when times were rough." then it goes on in verse 10 to say "Because you kept my Word in passionate patience, I’ll keep you safe in the time of testing that will be here soon, and all over the earth, every man, woman, and child put to the test."

The moral of the story is that you don't have to be some big scholar you only have to be ready and willing.  God has a door he wants to open just for you.  It is one that no man can close because it is god ordained.  Now you need to believe in yourself, trust god and say Yes, lord I am here use me.
